Mothers, It is Their Day!

11 05 2008

Who takes the child by the hand takes the mother by the heart.
German Proverb

A visiting Dominican priest celebrated the 9:30 AM Sunday Mass. Porfirio Concepcion can be seen up front distributing flowers.

At the 12 Noon, Francis “Jere” Clark, our Deputy Grand Knight and a famous Radio personality, (pictured below) dutifully distributes the gifts to the mothers.

Mothers know it is their day and some of them are elaborately and wonderfully attired.

The scene is especially poignant when the mothers approach the altar with their children.

Flowers for Mothers & Grandmothers!

11 05 2008

God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.
Jewish Proverb

It was fitting that Pentecost and Mothers’ Day should fall on the same Sunday.  God’s Spirit breathes life into us and in Christ, eternal life.  Mother’s give birth and nurture life.

The flowers were acquired from the Prince George’s County Right to Life, a fitting source considering the dignity of motherhood and the sanctity of life.

The council right now has limited resources but graciously assumed half the costs for the flowers, working as a true partner with the parish.

Here we see our Grand Knight taking a personal role as one of the volunteers giving out the flowers!

Flower Presentations on Mothers’ Day

11 05 2008

Mother is the name of God in the lips and hearts of children.
William Makepeace Thackeray

The Knights of Columbus wanted to honor the mothers of the parish as a sign of their commitment to families.

The parish has the regular tradition of handing out flowers to mothers. The Knights asked to serve in this role on Pentecost Sunday 2008.

Two Knights did the honors at the end of all the weekend Masses: 5:30 PM (Saturday), 7:30 AM, 9:30 AM and 12 Noon (Sunday).

It became very evident that many of the mothers were very moved by the flower presentations. Compared to all that mothers do, flowers are such a small thing.
